Temp Q&A

2020 at Situations has started with a bang in the form of our exciting rebrand of the Temp division to “Talk Temps”. As the new manager of Talk Temps, we wanted it to reflect the vibrant and adaptable world of temping and how it can work so well for both client and candidate. Don’t just listen to us though, hear it from one of our long-standing temps!

What would you say are the benefits of temping?

In my view, there are several benefits to temping. Flexibility is extremely important to me and the way it gives balance to my home/work life regime. I like to choose when I want to work, what I want to do and the financial institution I would like to work in.

How do Situations make you feel at ease when looking for an assignment?

I have used Situations as my go-to’ employment agency over the years. Confidence in an agency is paramount. Starting with their personal approach at initial registration through to post-interview stage they take great care to include you in every step of the way. Situations get to know you and your requirements, what type of office, area and level of positions you wish to work in. The most important quality is that they take the time to work closely with their clients and candidates to obtain the best fit.

What would you say to someone who is apprehensive about temping?

Don’t hesitate! There is nothing to lose and a lot to gain invaluable work experience, enhancing existing and/or acquiring new skills. Ultimately you may find your ‘niche’.

Do you feel temping has helped to expand your skillset?

I’ve always shown enthusiasm and interest in learning new skills. I initially started my career in Secretarial/PA positions and moved on to Compliance and Risk. I firmly believe in lifelong learning and if you are prepared to study for an area you are interested in and obtaining ‘a new string for your bow’, temping is a good route to expand your knowledge and skills.

Would you say temping is for everyone, no matter their age, level, point in their career?

Temping is indeed for everyone. Entry-level candidates can enhance their CV which can show ambition and drive to gain valuable skills and can demonstrate reliability to prospective employers. More experienced candidates who are seeking a career change or a return to work can obtain important updated experience on a ‘try before you buy’ low obligation. Since I retired last year, I decided to return to work 3 days per week but didn’t know if this would be acceptable to prospective employers - but Situations proved me wrong! I would urge anyone to give temping a try.

Why Situations?

It comes across that Situations enjoy what they do and give a personal touch. The one-to-one relationship I have with Gemma Le Page is priceless as she really took the time to know me and get the roles I am interested in.
