Guernsey on the Up!

With Guernsey almost at the 100th day of no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and with staff being back into the office environment for 2 months or so, it almost feels like lockdown and home working is a distant memory. However in fact it was only 8 weeks ago we were all complying to lockdown rules and queuing at the supermarkets!

Back in May we stated in one of our blogs that the impact of Covid-19 has hit businesses in multiple ways, and recruitment was no exception. Plans to take on more staff may have gone out of the window, or conversely, businesses might be having to hire more people than ever before. It was the latter one which turned out to be correct! Here at Situations we are finding that recruitment in Guernsey is busier than ever and clients are back up and running and actively recruiting for new staff.

Our Director Nadine Gavey was quoted on the front page of the Guernsey Press on Tuesday stating the below:

‘We are definitely seeing a lot more people looking for jobs. There are 100-plus people applying within 48 hours of a job being posted'

This shows that the recruitment market is buoyant at present. The way in which Guernsey has handled Covid- 19 has meant our economy has started to bounce back and so has the need for new staff.

The latest Report on Jobs survey by the REC UK and KPMG showed that recruitment activity moved closer to stabilisation in July, with both permanent and temporary placements declining at much softer rates than in the prior four months. Redundancies led to a sharper rise in staff who are available immediately and the supply of temps increased at the fastest rate in over two decades.

We have had a fantastic two months here at Situations after Guernsey eased out of lockdown and we have placed dozens of candidates in their dream jobs. So, if you are looking for a new opportunity yourself or a new staff member to join your team, get in touch today at team@situations.gg
