Gemma's Story

2020 at Situations has started with a bang in the form of our exciting rebrand of the Temp division to “Talk Temps”. As the new manager of Talk Temps, I wanted it to reflect the vibrant and adaptable world of temping and how it can work so well for both client and candidate. Our new design symbolises how temping can positively make an impact on both parties, no matter how short or long the contract is. We wanted something that represented the quick, efficient turnover of our service, something fun and eye-catching that represented our personality not just our professionalism. We are more determined than ever to continue growing our success in placing temps in their ideal jobs and providing clients with their perfect temps.


Firstly, I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself and how I came to be at Situations. My name is Gemma Le Page, Guernsey born and bred, recruitment consultant, pub quiz extraordinaire, but most importantly I am Situations’ temp desk manager/recruitment consultant. Below is some background on myself, not only to give you an insight into my expertise but also to break down a little bit of that barrier between me and prospective candidates to reassure you that each placement is personal and to make you feel confident in my ability to place not only skill-to-skill but personality-to-personality.


When I left Grammar Sixth Form having completed my A levels at the ripe young age of 18, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life - Teacher? Accountant? Lion tamer? Without wanting to jump into anything with too much haste, I temped for a while trying to figure out what I was good at and what really excited me, including work in the finance sector. I soon landed myself a permanent position with my family business as an Administrator and I loved it! It gave me a sense of what an office environment can really do for morale and how much I valued being in a client-facing role. A huge part of my job was sales, helping customers to find the office supplies that suit their needs and budget, finding products that they didn’t even know existed but were going to make their life a lot easier! I gained my clients’ trust and they knew that one way or another I was going to help them however I could. I even managed the business myself for weeks at a time whilst my parents were away, a responsibility I welcomed and took great pride in.


After three years in that role, I realised I needed a new challenge so I went back to the drawing board, experiencing roles that I had desperately wanted to try, some that filled me with dread, some that didn’t challenge me and some that changed my life. I nannied for 5 years amongst all that. I know, a bit of a change in direction, but it taught me so much: resilience, empathy, patience, and I loved every second of it! I soon realised that it was not something I saw myself doing forever and began looking for a new challenge.


On a hot day in the summer of 2019 through the wonders of the internet and like a beacon of hope, I saw a vacancy advertised on Situations’ website for a Recruitment Consultant! I immediately emailed the most convincing email I could write; I secured an interview and the rest is history. Recruitment to me uses all my best skills, the flare for sales, love for client-facing work and the ability to empathise with others. I found a truly rewarding career in recruitment and I finally know what I was meant to do with my life. Knowing that I am helping others find such contentment in their working lives fills me with pride. I strongly believe that going through something allows you to pass on what you have learnt and gives you the ability to help those going through it too. I have been through every emotion there is in my various career paths and now it is my turn to help you find a contract or career that makes you feel as fulfilled as I do.
