Why not?

We pay competitive salaries to our staff, plus we have a profit share once a year, so everyone in the team gets a share of the success.

This means that the Consultants are not picking and choosing candidates who walk through the door according to who is more “place-able”, but they are allocated according to the Consultants’ areas of expertise.

This ensures we are all pulling in the same direction and gives both our candidates and client companies the best possible service.

We have a strong team culture here and we all celebrate when a placement is made, as it is a sign of a job well done, it is good for the business as a whole and contributes to the annual profit share for all of our staff.

The January survey for Markit’s Report on Jobs  shows a welcome, although modest increase in permanent placements in the UK, especially in the engineering, construction and IT sectors.

Jobs in Guernsey

We continue to see an increase in the number of jobs available since the start of the year, with both the permanent and temp sectors looking promising.

YES – a degree gives the opportunity for creative thinking, leadership and team working, soft skills beneficial to the workplace.

NO – employees do just as well starting at the bottom of a company at 18 and working their way up.

We at Situations reckon - it’s not essential to have a degree in Guernsey.  Many students with good grades at A’level start their professional qualifications at 18 and are ahead of the game at 21 with no student fees.

What do you think?

• We tend to spend the beginning of the day catching up with overnight emails from our candidates and clients,
• then interviewing new candidates as they register
• running jobs by our candidates and forwarding their CV’s to the client companies
• obtaining and passing on candidate information to our clients
• organising first and second interviews for our candidates
• passing on job offers (always a nice task!)
• constantly texting and emailing our candidates to keep them updated
• dealing with phone and postal queries
• arranging meetings with our clients and attending their agency briefings on new vacancies
• placing temps on short notice
• weekly payroll and invoicing
• project work like the annual Careers Show
• plus lots and lots of administration.

Our jobs are very much a matter of juggling many tasks at once and prioritising wherever possible, whilst continuing to provide the highest quality prompt service to both our candidates and clients.

We never know when we arrive in the morning what that day will bring.  It can be difficult to plan a day’s tasks in advance sometimes, however we all thrive on the challenge and it is definitely the most positive role to undertake when placing someone in their dream job!  We wouldn’t do anything else.
