The Report on UK Jobs by Markit from a March survey of employers concludes the following:
UK
- Permanent staff placements increase for 3rd month in a row
- IT & Computing sector lead upturn in permanent job vacancy growth to 8 month high
- Permanent staff salaries stagnate
- Differing trends in permanent and temporary appointments suggest a link to Agency Worker Regulations
Guernsey
At Situations, we’ve noticed an increase in permanent places this Spring coupled with a large number of candidate enquiries. Salaries remain static.

UK market
According to the Markit Report on UK Jobs for February, there is “cautious optimism” in the UK job market. Key points are:
- Stronger rise in permanent placements but temp billings fall
- IT & Computing and Engineering/Construction staff most in demand
- Permanent salaries falling but temp pay rising fast.
Guernsey market
We have noticed a significant increase permanent placements recently and temporary placements are also rising. Pay for both sectors is steady.

Jobs in the UK
The January survey for Markit’s Report on Jobs shows a welcome, although modest increase in permanent placements in the UK, especially in the engineering, construction and IT sectors.

We continue to see an increase in the number of jobs available since the start of the year, with both the permanent and temp sectors looking promising.
